Welcome to the "50 Friendship Years" event gallery at Skydive Monkey Head in Mexico. Skydivers from several countries joined this successful and emotional record breaking event.
This event was organized by Juan Manuel Saavedra to celebrate his 50 years in skydiving in which he embraced many beautiful friendships. This year is also Larry Henderson’s (who attended the event) 50 years in skydiving and so is mine, it turns out that Juan Manuel (Johnny) and I started at the same place (Tequesquitengo, Mexico) and on the exact same day (August 24th 1975), so Johnny generously added Larry and I to the celebration.
Amazing organizers (all friends) came to support Johnny including Kate and Carsten Cooper-Jensen, Larry Henderson, Fernando Gallegos y Jose Ignacio Alvarez, as well as many talented skydivers from various parts of the world came to support Johnny it this event. The main goal was safety and to embrace and celebrate 50 years of friendship and camaraderie and, if possible, to break the Mexican National record. In the end after the normal process and variables, we went up on the last jump of the event and built a beautiful 50-Way formation! A very emotional and beautiful way to celebrate 50 years in skydiving, I was so happy to be a part of this, thank you Johnny for organizing this space for all of us to celebrate friendship and life…
On a personal note: I had just been in the Vertical World record event, so for me, back-to-back records! Additionally, this was super special because I was raised in Mexico and started jumping very near this DZ so to come home and be a part of a record and have it be (as coincidence) a 50-way for 50 years, wow! This and so many other elements made this a very special event for me.
Thanks to all participants, organizers, staff, volunteers and of course to Skydive Monkey Head (Skydive Mexico) for such an amazing, super fun and successful event!
